cylinder grinder

In woodworking, there are tasks for which a thickness planer is too coarse and the sanding surface of a random orbital sander too small. If finely sanded surfaces are required, then a cylinder sander is the right choice. Depending on the grit of the sandpaper, carpenters, joiners and hobby furniture makers can achieve very fine surfaces or rapid material removal with a cylindrical sander. At BHM Maschinen, both professionals and ambitious do-it-yourselfers will find the right cylindrical sander for their requirements.

Our product portfolio in the cylindrical sanders category offers you a variety of different machines in different performance classes. But always at the favourable BHM price. Our cylindrical sanding machines from Bernardo or Holzmann are suitable for soft and hard wood types. Depending on the model, the feed speed is individually and continuously adjustable and the feed carpet is designed for a long service life. Convince yourself of the quality and performance of our cylindrical sanding machines.

Frequently asked questions about the cylindrical sander for wood

Where are cylindrical sanders for wood used?

Cylindrical sanders are used in furniture making or in joineries. They are used to put the finishing touches on wider workpieces, but also on slender mouldings and beams. They are less suitable for significantly reducing the thickness of boards or mouldings. Their main field of application is final surface finishing, for example, in preparation for lacquering. In the meantime, more and more do-it-yourselfers are discovering the possible uses of a cylinder sander. For this reason, these machines are increasingly being purchased by DIY enthusiasts and placed in the hobby room as a supplement to the other machinery.

How does a cylinder sander work?

A cylinder sander is basically a very simple machine for processing wooden workpieces. It consists of a machine frame with a flat machine table. A height-adjustable roller (cylinder) is mounted above the table and is driven by an electric motor. The cylinder is wrapped with sandpaper. The workpieces are pushed through between the table and the cylinder either manually or by the driven machine table. By moving the sanding cylinder towards the workpiece, material is removed from the workpiece with each pass. Depending on the grit of the sandpaper, a different fineness of the surfaces is achieved.

Can a cylinder sanding machine be repaired if it is defective?

A cylindrical sanding machine for wood from Bernardo or Holzmann from the BHM Maschinen range is a very robust machine that is designed and built for tough everyday use. The most important wearing parts are dimensioned accordingly. In the event of an incident, our cylindrical grinders can be repaired quickly and inexpensively and defective parts can be replaced. The machine is thus quickly ready for use again. Our brand manufacturers also ensure a sufficient supply of spare parts far into the future.

For whom is it worth buying a cylindrical grinding machine?

A cylindrical sanding machine for wood is the perfect addition to the equipment in a woodworking workshop. Cylindrical sanding machines are indispensable both in professional woodworking and in the well-equipped hobby workshop. If long workpieces such as boards, battens or even beams need to be smoothed quickly and accurately and reduced in thickness within certain limits, then a cylinder sanding machine from BHM Maschinen is the right choice. The machines remove less material than a thickness planer, but the surface is very fine.

What do I have to pay attention to when working with a cylinder sander?

Basically, protective goggles, a breathing mask and hearing protection should always be worn when working with a cylinder sander. It is also highly recommended that the machine is connected to an extraction system. However, not all sanding dust and splinters are removed by the extraction system. Wearing a dust mask is therefore recommended.

In addition, the sanding noise can be very unpleasant when working with such a machine and can damage hearing. Before working on the first workpiece with a cylindrical wood sander, check that there is enough space in front of and behind the machine so that the workpiece does not bump into anything and possibly get jammed in the machine. Loose parts of clothing, for example open shirt sleeves should be closed so that they are not pulled into the machine.

Who are the manufacturers of the cylindrical sanders for wood from BHM-Maschinen?

We currently have machines from two well-known and very reputable manufacturers in the cylindrical sander category. Holzmann Maschinen GmbH is one of the best-known manufacturers of inexpensive but robust woodworking and metalworking machines in Germany. For around a quarter of a century, Holzmann has been very popular with both professionals and ambitious DIY enthusiasts. Our second supplier, Bernardo, belongs to the Austrian PWA HandelsgesmbH. Under the umbrella of this GmbH, Bernardo is managed as an independent brand that sells self-developed machines for metal and wood processing.
