What must be observed when using a forklift work platform?
The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) has laid down in detail what must be observed when using a working platform for forklift trucks. For example, the lift mast of the forklift must be vertical when using a working platform. The lift mast must not be tilted forwards or backwards even when the working platform is raised. Once the work platform is raised, the forklift with the platform may only be moved under certain conditions.
When may the forklift truck be moved with a work platform attached?
As long as there is no one in the working platform, the forklift may be moved. As soon as the work platform is occupied, the forklift may no longer be moved. There are only exceptions regarding fine positioning if the work platform has only been raised minimally and a grab handle is available. There are also exceptions for forklift trucks that have to be moved between storage racks as intended.
Does the driver of a working platform stacker need a special permit?
No, no special permit and no special driving licence is required for the forklift driver to operate a working platform forklift. Basically, aptitude as a forklift driver and a minimum age of 18 years are required. Before use, forklift truck operators must be instructed. The entrepreneur who assigns the driver is responsible for carrying out this instruction.
Can a mesh box pallet be used as a work platform for a forklift truck?
Although mesh box pallets bear a certain resemblance to a work platform stacker, they may not be used as work platforms. One reason for this prohibition is the insufficient possibility of attaching mesh box pallets to the forklift truck. In the case of a work platform for forklift trucks, it must be ensured that the work platform cannot be moved in the longitudinal direction of the forks and lifted upwards.
For this purpose, special working platforms are equipped with a so-called positive locking device behind the backs of the forks. Working platforms are secured with the help of hooks, chains or bolts as well as insertable rods. Another important criterion is that all parts and devices for securing the working platform must be captively connected to the working platform. A mesh box pallet does not fulfil these requirements.
How many people are allowed to use a work platform for forklifts at the same time?
How many people are allowed to be on a work platform for forklifts at the same time is determined by the manufacturer and usually depends on the size of the work platform. Either 1 or, in the case of many working platforms, 2 persons may use the working platform at the same time and work on it.
